L&T Technology Services LTD will pay $9,928,000 to resolve allegations that it underpaid visa fees in violation of the False Claims Act, according to the US Attorney’s Office District of South Carolina Monday.
The Office said that the India-based company allegedly acquired inexpensive B-1 visas instead of more expensive H-1B visas for its foreign national personnel.
B-1 visas don’t permit foreign nationals to perform paid labour in the US and generally cost between $200 to $300, while H-1B visas do permit paid labour but cost approximately between $4,000 to $6,000, the Office said.
